- Abstract

A postcard, postdated August 22, 1912, bearing a message from Arthur John Lockhart (a.k.a. Pastor Felix) addressed to "Mrs. Macdonald (L.M. Montgomery)". Reverend Arthur John Lockhart (1850-1926), a poet from Lockharteville, Nova Scotia, who published under the pseudonym Pastor Felix, was a correspondent and friend of L.M. Montgomery. Lockhart was also the uncle of Nate Lockhart, L.M. Montgomery's first 'beau' from her schooldays. Emily Climbs (1925) was dedicated to 'Pastor Felix.' PARTIAL TRANSCRIPT: "Winterport. Weds. Aug 21, 1912. I felicitate you, my friend! My daughter Mary is held by such a 'bond' as yours, - only it is two-ply now. She could not visit us, though Robert is reported as angelic and cries not, but is in glee, when they put him in his bath. I wrote to her (and the quotation may fit you - sametime) these lines of Margaret Alden: "Dainty room with snowwhite beds, where, like flowers with petals curled, rest in peace two dreaming heads, that is mother's little world!" My recent visit to Northport accounts for this card. Felix"
